It’s official. Conan O’Brien is officially leaving The Tonight Show. There has been scandal, intrigue, and back-handed jokes for weeks now. NBC apparently agreed to pay the comic $33 million dollars to leave, as well as an additional $12 million to his staff. The agreement includes severance pay for the entire crew who uprooted from NYC to LA less than 12 months ago. Under the deal, Conan will not be allowed on the air until September of this year. Now we just have to wait and see where he will land.
NBC reportedly promised the tonight show to Conan when he signed his contract 5 years ago. Because of Jay Leno’s failure during primetime, NBC wanted to return to what had been working before. Conan wouldn’t have it, and we don’t blame him. After only 7 months the comedian had barely even had time to find his footing. NBC has come out looking just about as bad as you can.
Without getting to opinionated – we side with Conan.
